John Paul II Education Center
The Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio
Located on the third floor of the Library wing at the Josephinum, this 5,000 sq ft space was once an open dormitory for college students and then became a large storage room when the college built its own new building in 1958. We were asked to turn the entire floor into faculty offices, conference rooms, and restrooms.
Our model was a Roman salone and we accomplished this with much distress as the perimeter dormer windows had to be primarily for the private offices and conference spaces. In the end, the salone joined all the offices as a central gathering space and is used today for receptions, formal meetings, and office assistance. Each office has extensive built-in wood shelving. Other materials include wood plank LVT throughout, standard Josephinum decorative light fixtures, loop pile carpet in the conference rooms, and stained white oak for the ceiling of the salone.
