Blessed Sacrament
Newark, Ohio
Working on a church designed in 1941 on models of Palladio and Georgian architecture was a joy. The interior work we completed here is a natural completion to a classical interior with new Corinthian reredos and tempietto, Ionic side shrines, and wood liturgical furnishings proper to a modest regional parish. The original church designed by Robert J Krauss, a talented Columbus architect in the early 20th century, already included a Tuscan basilica main aisle that only needed to be "finished" as Doric- a perfectly acceptable transformation according to classical canon.
The new flooring is porcelain tile, the new shrines and reredos are painted poplar, and the new furnishings are all in stained quarter-sawn white oak.
